Yes. Great words, such an important lesson. I have a personal guideline/mantra that I use daily: “Don’t do anything you don’t want to do.” Sounds selfish (maybe) but it forces me to be honest and quit acting from fear, obligation, or guilt. And the crazy thing is, when I push through those negative motivations and get really honest about what I DO WANT, I often end up doing the exact same behavior (e.g., getting up early, exercising, doing chores) that I was feeling guilty about. But when I’m choosing freely to do it from desire (rather than guilt/fear/obligation/self-induced pressure) it’s so much better. It’s energizing and amazing and I can be happy in the process because I’m not fleeing resentment or self-hatred.
